Niall O'Driscoll
Niall’s work has always striven to be big, new and exciting. Since achieving the highest mark in the history of Trinity’s Samuel Beckett Centre for lighting and directing a 32-strong theatre production of Under Milk Wood, he went on to win The Irish Times Most Promising Newcomer in the Irish Theatre Awards. Niall completed his Masters in Film top of his class, completing his thesis on the work of Martin Scorsese in New York, NYU Bobst. Niall moved into digital video in 2001, exploring all the possibilities of interactive and online commercial video, shooting interviews with a multitude of pop stars, from Tricky to Beyonce, to documentaries in Africa and South America.
Niall was the first director to shoot S3D in Ireland for The Aviva 3D Experience creating a point-of-view, personalised branded experience, a world’s first achievement.
“I love working in a challenging environment with the Irish Rugby and Soccer teams, especially when we are getting the opportunity to create something that has never been done before. I am very lucky to have a very experienced and talented team behind me in vStream. We have learned a lot from each other over the years – mainly that anything’s possible!”
Niall has shot a wide array of green screen and visual effects from speeding cars and samurai battles, to recreating 18th century Dublin in a short, branded period-drama for Jameson International. He has worked with horses and children in varied locations across the world.
“One of the many things I’ve learned over the years is who or what is easiest to work with - I prefer horses to children, actors to horses, actresses to actors, and animated Elves to real people. Getting the chance to work in a Pixar-style environment building Christmas Elves and Robot Reindeer Motorbikes for Westfield in the UK has been brilliant – Pixar are like the Apple of the media world when it comes to innovation and cutting edge work – this is the world I like being a part of.”
When it comes to budgets, Niall has always come in on time and on budget.
Niall has also written much of the work he has shot to date – giving him great insight into every aspect of the process of creating for multiple short and long-form formats. With a background in Advertising and Marketing strategy, Niall is always aware of the importance of bringing the creative concept as far as possible, while keeping focussed on the main aim of the communication.
Niall is available for weddings, children’s birthday parties and bar mitzvahs.
